ETF

Also known as: Exchange Traded Fund

An index-tracking fund that trades on the stock exchange like a share, throughout the day.

An ETF is like an index fund you buy and sell on the exchange at live prices, instead of once-a-day NAV.

They usually have even lower costs than index funds but need a demat account and trade at market prices that can drift from the true value.

For hands-off SIP investors, a plain index fund is often simpler. Traders and larger investors may prefer ETFs.

For example

A Nifty 50 ETF lets you buy the whole index at, say, ₹250 a unit, live during market hours, straight from your demat account.
